Brown & May Marine Ltd. have been contracted by clients to manage and implement fishing gear and avoidance strategies to prevent survey or construction delays or interactions between survey construction activities and static fishing gears, examples of which are given below:
- Negotiating with fishermen the relocation of static fishing gears to enable survey or construction activities to proceed
- The undertaking of scouting surveys to record the locations of static gears for the purposes of:
- to determine whether a requirement exists for cooperation agreements with fishermen for static fishing gear removal or relocation
- to assist in the planning of survey lines to avoid contact with isolated static fishing gears
- to evaluate statements by fishermen relating to the presence of static gears in survey or construction areas
- to compliment EIA commercial fisheries baselines
- Where legally and contractually justified or due to safety requirements, BMML has been contracted by clients to commission vessels on standby for the removal of static fishing gears where circumstances dictate this as the most appropriate course of action
